The Summer Program was created to provide youngsters, ages 4 through 13, with a fun, safe and stimulating alternative to an empty apartment or dangerous city streets. The full day program is run out of P.S. 50 and for seven weeks each summer students receive academic tutoring, computer instruction, lessons in cooking, art, and writing, as well as participate in traditional recreational activities. Field trips include visits to the Children's Museum of Manhattan, the Central Park Zoo, the Museum of Natural History, the Conservatory Gardens, and the New York Aquarium. Older participants take part in the Friday Soup Kitchen at All Soul's Church where they help feed New Yorkers who are in need of a hot meal. Highlights of this past summer include the Great Booker T. Races, and a barbecue and pool party at an estate in Connecticut.
