There are many ways to make a difference!

Mentoring : youth 10-18 years (flexible schedule)

It is possible to volunteer to work with one child, a small group, or present a workshop on a relevant topic to adolescents or college bound teens. 

After School Program: grades 1-4 (Monday-Friday, 3 p.m. - 6 p.m.)

  • Tutoring and homework help
  • Listening to children read and reading to children
  • Educational computer and board games; word processing

Y-L.E.A.D: grades 5-8 (Monday-Friday, 3 p.m. - 6p.m.)

  • Tutoring, homework, and computer help
  • High school application and placement guidance

LEAP: grades 1-8 (Saturday, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.)

  • Literacy Enrichment
  • Arts and Crafts

Summer Program: ages 5-14, July-August (Monday-Friday, 8a.m. - 6p.m.)

  • Reading and writing enrichment
  • Art, cooking, music, acting, and dance

Turning Point: ages 16 + up (Monday-Friday, 9:30 a.m. - 3p.m.)

  • Computer Training : Microsoft Word, Power Point, and Excel (morning)
  • GED preparation (afternoon)
  • Assist in resume and cover letter writing as well as job searches
  • Facilitate work readiness workshops

Some alternative ways of volunteering:

  • Chaperone group trips (ex. To museums or other cultural events in Manhattan)
  • Help to organize holiday parties
  • Translate text from English to Spanish 
  • Assist with general fundraising and administrative work
  • Use your imagination!  - Create opportunities based on your own interests and talents.
